What's a Watt?
The Watt is a unit used to measure power. I always find it easiest
to visualize a Watt when I think of a light bulb. For this example I
will use the standard 100 Watt incandescent light bulb.
Let's say you turned 10 of these bulbs on at once. You would then be
consuming 1000 Watts of power. (100 x 10 = 1000)
What's a Kilowatt?
A Kilowatt is simply 1000 Watts. It is often abbreviated kW.
What is a Kilowatt Hour?
If you were to use 1000 Watts for 1 hour you would have used 1 Kilowatt Hour. A Kilowatt Hour is just a measurement of power used over time. It is often abbreviated kWh.
What is distributed power and why is it better?
Distributed power is power that is made on or near the point of use. The reasons that distributed power is better are many but the most critical are the avoidance of cost in transporting electricity, and the ability to capture the heat that other power generating facilities waste by using offsite generation.
